The German military still has them too for ceremonial purposes. Had to sandpaper away the swastikas to make it okay.

Yea you can make up to 15 000 or 20 000 polys. For example a character in Cryengine can be up to 100 000 polys :D

You need to make mosin now. With the original bolt, with the hex receiver.... and little tally marks carved into the stock.

Original Mosins are classic, but the Finnish M39 would be really cool too. It's the perfect blend between a Mosin and a Mauser, IMHO.

I dig this. Typically, wooden guns are tough to make interesting because of the monotony of the design; the only real way to break it up is if there are cracks all along it where the wooden stock is breaking and it's being held together by tape and/ bolts. And that is just not appropriate for most game applications. But you did a pretty good job of keeping visual interest there with the scuffs and dirt around the bolts.

To tell you the truth the original k98 didn't have noticeable scuffs around the bolts.  Very worn k98 models had some light scuffs around the edge which it was barely noticeable.  
That was the team decision to add them for extra effect i guess.
